Selection
A contactor will allow a switching device such as a thermostat, timer or movement sensor to control a heater with a load greater than the devices switching capacity. As all the contactors in the BN Thermic range are ‘three-pole’ they will also enable a single pole device to switch a three phase load.
Using the following table, it is easy to select the contactor capable of switch any given load.

CAUTION
When selecting a contactor to switch halogen heaters, the contactor should be over-rated by 100%
When working with voltages other than 230V 1ph or 400V 3ph & N, please consult BN Thermic
Examples
Using a 10A thermostat to switch a 4kW 230V 1ph underfloor heating mat
The 4kW mat will draw a nominal 17A. As the mat is operating on a single phase, the load will be switched using a single pole. Therefore we can select the CON-32 which is capable of switching up to 32 A per pole.
Using a 10A thermostat to switch a 30kW 4000V 3ph & N heating system.
The 30kW heating system will draw a nominal 44A per phase. As the system is operating on all three phases, the load will be switched using all three poles. We would therefore select the CON-50 which is capable of switching up to 50A per phase.
