How it Works

The SCH ceiling heaters provide comfort heat in commercial premises with 600 x 600 suspended ceilings.  They are particularly suited to shops.

The heaters are installed directly into the 600 x 600 grid with each heater occupying the space of one 600 x 600 tile.  The powerful tangential fan draws in air from the space through the inlet which is heated by the heating element before being discharged back into the space.  This recycling approach ensures a rapid warm up.

RST-TP Thermostat

Basic manual control can be provided by our CS-7 controller offering on/off/high heat/low heat/fan only settings.  Temperature control can be provided by our wall-mounted RST-TP tamperproof thermostat.  When required a heater can be controlled by both CS-7 controller and RST-TP thermostat.  As an alternative you can select the SCHG-30T which is supplied with a factory fitted electronic thermostat.  The set-point of the built-in thermostat can be adjusted on the front panel of the heater.

Where a number of heaters are required to heat an area, we recommend System X.

Controls

There are three control options.  In all instances the control devices are connected to a convenient terminal enclosure mounted on the rear of the heater.  Each heater will require dedicated control.  For multi-heater installations we recommend System X which provides a simple means of controlling a group of heaters.

The CS-7 controller should be wall-mounted in a convenient location providing the following settings:

  • On
  • Off
  • Low heat
  • High heat
  • Fan only

The CS-7 controller can be used with all four heaters in the SCH range.

 

Remote Mounted Tamperproof Thermostat

RST-TP

The RST-TP wall-mounted 20A thermostat will provide accurate temperature control for the SCHG-30 (3kW),  SCHG-45 (4.5kW) and SCHG-60 (6kW) heaters.  Remote thermostatic control is not suitable for use with the SCHG-30T which is supplied with a built-in thermostat.

The RST-TP’s tamperproof design prevents casual adjustment of the temperature setting.

 

Combination of Remote Mounted Controller and Tamperproof Thermostat

This combination of control devices provides both manual and accurate thermostatic control. 

The CS-7 controller should be wall-mounted in a convenient location providing the following settings:

  • On
  • Off
  • Low heat
  • High heat
  • Fan only

The RST-TP wall-mounted 20A thermostat will provide accurate temperature control for the SCHG-30 (3kW),  SCHG-45 (4.5kW) and SCHG-60 (6kW) heaters.  It can be connected directly to the CS-7 controller which in turn is connected to the terminal enclosure on the rear of the heater.

This combination is not suitable for use with the SCHG-30T which is supplied with a built-in thermostat.

The RST-TP’s tamperproof design prevents casual adjustment of the temperature setting.

In simple terms the output of the SCH heater or heaters must be greater than the heat losses from the building during periods of cold weather.  A small amount of heat is lost through the walls, ceilings and floors with more significant losses through windows and doors.

HEAT CALCULATOR

The estimated heat loss figure is the absolute minimum kW output that you should consider installing.  We would suggest adding approximately 50% to this figure to allow for an acceptable warm up time in cold conditions as well as making allowances for exceptional weather conditions and possible errors in the original data used in the estimate.

The next step is to select the output of heater taking into consideration the height of the suspended ceiling.  Use the following table as a guide.

Having established the minimum kW output required and the ouput of the individual heater(s), select the minimum number of heaters needed to meet the kW requirement.
