How it Works

SMH surface ceiling heaters provide comfort heat in commercial premises and are particularly well suited to shops.

Generally the heaters are mounted directly onto a conventional ceiling although they can be suspended from drop rods when required.  The powerful tangential fan draws in air from the space through the inlet which is heated by the heating element before being discharged back into the space.  This recycling approach ensures a rapid warm up.

 

Controls

There are three control options.  In all instances the control devices are connected to an easily accessible terminal enclosure.  Each heater will require dedicated control.  For multi-heater installations we recommend System X.

Remote Mounted Controller

The CS-7 controller should be wall-mounted in a convenient location providing the following settings.

  • On
  • Off
  • Low heat
  • High heat
  • Fan only

Remote Mounted Controller

The CS-1 controller can be used with all three basic SMH models.

Remote Mounted Tamperproof Thermostat

The RST-TP wall-mounted thermostat will provide accurate temperature control.

The RST-TP’s tamperproof design prevents casual adjustment of the temperature setting.

Combination of Remote Mounted Controller and Tamperproof Thermostat

This combination of control devices provides both manual and accurate thermostatic control.

ENQURY FORM

In simple terms the output of the SMH heater or heaters must be greater than the heat losses from the building during periods of cold weather.  A small amount of heat is lost through the walls, ceilings and floors with more significant losses through windows and doors.

HEAT CALCULATOR

The estimated heat loss figure is the absolute minimum kW output that you should consider installing.  We would suggest adding approximately 50% to this figure to allow for an acceptable warm up time in cold conditions as well as making allowances for exceptional weather conditions and possible errors in the original data used in the estimate.

Having established the minimum kW output, select the minimum number of heaters needed to meet this requirement.
