Long wave Technology
ETH terrace heaters utilise long wave technology to provide direct heat to people without the need to warm the surrounding air. Long wave heaters are best suited to sheltered areas and do not produce the light output associated with shortwave halogen heaters.

A choice of mounting systems allows the heaters to be positioned exactly as required to focus output precisely on the target area. The brackets allow ‘up and down’ adjustment. Multi-heater suspension brackets are also available.

Factory installed insulation
The ETH’s robust steel case is packed with insulation material to prevent heat loss through the top of the heater. This feature ensures that virtually all the heater’s output is directed downwards.
How it Works
The ETH terrace heater consists of a heating element embedded in an aluminium heat emitter. The heater emitter is housed in a robust steel case which is packed with insulation to ensure that the heat output is directed downwards rather than upwards.
An ETH terrace heater should be wall-mounted or suspended at high level. When energised, the heater will emit long wave energy which travels in straight lines from the heat emitter towards the ‘target’. Once the energy is absorbed by solid bodies (including people) it is experienced as heat. In this way an ETH terrace heater can heat people directly without the need to build up and maintain a body of warm air.
As the ETH produces long wave energy rather than shortwave energy, it does not produce any light output whatsoever. This means that the ETH is suitable for applications where a light emitting shortwave halogen heater would not be welcome. However there are limitations. ETH terrace heaters are best suited to sheltered applications where people are protected from draughts and breezes. When heat is required in a more exposed location, we would recommend our HWP patio heaters.
ETH terrace heaters heat people directly without the need to build up and maintain a body of warm air. For this reason thermostatic control is rarely appropriate. For enhanced economy ETH terrace heaters are often controlled by time delay switches or movement sensors, which help ensure that unoccupied areas are not heated. However it should be noted that ETH terrace heaters are not instantly effective and when switched on from ‘cold’ can take several minutes to reach their optimum operating temperature.
TS-6 Push Button Timer (pre-programmed time delay)
The TS-6 is a compact surface-mount, weatherproof device which will energise a heater or heaters for a pre-programmed period between 2 minutes and 2 hours. Once this period has elapsed the heating will automatically be switched off until the button is pushed again. The TS-6 is rated IP66 making it safe for outdoor use.
The TS-6 can switch loads up to 3kW directly and larger loads via a suitable contactor.
TS-5 High Capacity Soft Start Timer
The TS-5 timer is designed for direct switching of patio heaters with a combined load of up to 6kW. The time delay period can be adjusted from 5 minutes to 70 minutes and once this time period has elapsed the heating will be switched off automatically. The device is rated IP55 making it completely safe for outdoor installation. The TS-5 includes terminals allowing the device to be connected to a remote programmable timer and/or a thermostat.
