Ceiling Grid Heaters Installed at Dreams Beds in Horsham, Sussex

The Project

In this case study we delve into a shop heating installation at Dreams Beds in Horsham, Sussex. As part of a full store renovation, Dreams required a new electric heating system that would keep staff and customers warm whilst not interfering with the daily operation of the store.

The store itself had all the usual characteristics that can make a shopfitting project difficult including a high heat loss glass store front, minimal available wall space and an interior layout that often changes. Here’s how this project unfolded.

The Solution

Given there was a 600 x 600 grid ceiling in the store, we specified 10 x 3kW ceiling grid heaters mounted equidistant throughout. These heaters are designed to live in grid ceilings and free up valuable wall space making them ideal for retail applications.

Given the kWs specified and the air churn created from the fan heaters, these units heated the space adequately and outweighed the heat loss created by the glass store front. The heaters were controlled via a 7-day programmable thermostat to ensure running costs were kept to a minimum and the store could be pre heated in the morning.

The Heaters

BN Thermic’s ceiling grid heaters are a staple product in the shop fitting world and have been specified in numerous national retail chains. The heaters are designed to live on the T bar of a grid ceiling and provide years of maintenance free operation. Their very simple design allows cold air to enter the heater, pass the heating elements and then enter the store as warm air.

Each heater is manufactured in the UK to highest standard and has a durable steel casing.

The Controls

This system was controlled via a 7-day programable thermostat and a contactor. The thermostat ensured:

  • The shop was not heated when unoccupied
  • The shop could be pre warmed before opening
  • A consistent temperature was maintained

The load of the heaters exceeded the switching capacity of the thermostat so a suitably rated contactor was specified.

The Final Project

This project was a success and met all the shop’s requirements. The same specification was subsequently rolled out across other branches.
