HXL Halogen Heater Install At Sussex Car Garage West Sussex
Project Type
Office Heating, Warehouse/Factory Heating
The Project
In this case study we look at a large industrial infrared heating installation at a car garage in Sussex. The garage operates out of a large, unheated warehouse that includes four workshop bays and a two-car valeting area. Our main objective was to design a system that localised heat where their technicians were working and to provide a heating system that does not interfere with staff, customers or various equipment including car lifts.
HXL quartz heaters suspended at 7m mounting height providing instant localised heat to workers
Project Summary
We were asked to carry out a site visit after the garage had used another manufacturer who had unfortunately supplied low-kilowatt halogen heaters and installed them at around 5m. These heaters were not providing enough heat for this vast industrial space and were subsequently generating complaints from the technicians. We were asked to provide a more effective and efficient solution.
The warehouse had two distinct areas requiring heating:
- Area One: Four car bays, measuring 23.52m x 10.06m.
- Area Two: Two valeting bays, measuring 10.06m x 9m.
The Specification
As we are looking to localise heat above technicians in area 1 &2, a large fan heating system was therefore unsuitable as it would try to heat every inch of this vast premises which would be needlessly costly.
Following a site visit, we recommended installing four of our HXL-18 18kW halogen heaters, to be suspended at 7m to provide instant localised radiant heat to the workers. The heaters were installed high enough to avoid interfering with car ramps or equipment whilst offering a discreet yet effective solution.
The Heaters
HXL quartz halogen heaters are designed to provide instant ‘punchy’ heat from high level making them ideal for this project. Quartz heaters heat people directly not surrounding air meaning the heaters’ performance is not effected by air movement from their large shutter doors opening and closing.
We also specified that each heater is to be individually controlled via a TS-8 push-button timer, allowing technicians to control the heating in each bay independently. This provides flexibility, ensuring that only the relevant areas are heated when needed.
A Successful Installation
The installation has been a great success, with technicians commenting on the significant improvement in comfort and the overall effectiveness of the heating solution. The new system has made a marked difference in the working environment, ensuring the garage’s technicians can work efficiently and comfortably throughout the year. They also managed to repurpose the original heaters in a smaller area with a lower mounting height, which proved to be very effective.
This installation ensures the garage’s technicians can work efficiently and comfortably throughout the year.
