Magic Lamp Quartz Halogen Heaters Installed at Pinhole Quilting in Pershore, Worcestershire
The Project
Pinhole Quilting is a fantastic company. Ostensibly they are suppliers of quilting machines but, in reality, they are more like a hub for a quilting community. From their Worcestershire headquarters the Pinhole team organise demonstrations , seminars and workshops for enthusiastic amateurs and professional quilters alike.

The Heating Challenge
Pinhole Quilting’s main building is approximately 14m x 10m x 6m high with a 4.5m wide roller shutter door required to accommodate some of the larger quilting machines. Because the building is only used intermittently, the owners were looking for a heating system that was effective this instant it was switched on. In this way they could avoid the costly fuel bills associated with conventional heating of such a large space.
They also had a concern specifically relating to the activity of quilting itself. It was absolutely vital that any light output from the heaters did not adversely affect the ability to identify and select the correct colour threads. The owners had seen radiant heaters with a very noticeable red glow which they believed, quite rightly, would cause problems in this regard.
Magic Lamps are the Answer
BN Thermic’s answer to the heating challenge was to specify halogen heaters fitted with their new Magic Lamps. A total of six 4.5kW quartz halogen heaters were suspended, in an evenly spaced grid, at 4.5m above floor level. The heaters provided instant, direct heat to people using the machines whilst avoiding the cost of actually warming the air within the building.
The selection of Magic Lamp heaters was critical. A standard halogen heater will emit a significant red glow which would affect a machine operator’s ability to identify colours. A Magic Lamp heater, however, produces the gentlest pink glow and has no effect on colour recognition.
Our new remodeled quartz halogen heaters are now available in ivory, black and in a twin lamp linear model
Magic lamp heaters omit no light output making them ideal for businesses which color match or work with fabrics
The Finished Project
We are pleased to say that, when a BN Thermic engineer returned to Pinhole Quilting to check on the project and snap a few photos, the owners were able to confirm that the heating system had met all their requirements
