Tunbridge Wells Squash Club required a new heating system for its three squash courts, providing comfortable and consistent heating for players while keeping the system simple to operate.
Each court has its own independent control system, allowing the temperature and heating operation to be managed separately.
The Specification
Squash courts require a heating system that can provide comfortable temperatures at player level without interfering with the use of the court. The heaters also need to be positioned above the playing area, making radiant heating particularly suitable as it provides heat directly to the people in the court whilst also increasing the overall air temperature.
With three courts operating independently, the heating system needed to provide individual control for each court, as each court is in sporadic use. The controls also needed to be kept simple and flexible, without relying on a specific usage pattern.
The Units Specified
Each court is fitted with two ESP2-36 radiant cassette heaters, positioned above the playing area to provide even coverage throughout the court. The heaters are mounted overhead, keeping them clear of the playing area while providing effective heat across the court. Find out more about our radiant cassette heaters here.
Each court is controlled by a PROSTAT4 setback timer, allowing the heating to maintain a lower setback temperature when the court is not in use and provide a higher comfort temperature when required. A simple push of the button switches the court into comfort mode for the required period.
A black bulb sensor is installed within the court area and connected back to the controller, allowing the PROSTAT4 to be mounted externally while still accurately sensing the temperature within the court.

A Successful Installation
The three-court installation provides Tunbridge Wells Squash Club with an independently controlled heating system for each court. The combination of radiant heating and dedicated controls allows each court to be heated according to its individual use.
The PROSTAT4 setback controls also help prevent the heating from operating unnecessarily when the courts are not in use, while maintaining a lower background temperature between playing periods
