86 Outdoor Patio Heaters Installed at Top Golf, Watford
The Project
Top Golf at Watford is a truly impressive facility combining a high-tech golf driving range with a lively bar and restaurant. The driving range itself comprises 44 individual bays which include a table and chairs as well as a platform from which to tee off. Customers waiting for their turn, enjoy full service from the bar and it is obviously in the company’s interest to create as comfortable environment. To put it bluntly: comfortable customers spend more money.
Quartz halogen heaters provide instant comfort heat making them ideal for intermittently used areas
BN Thermic outdoor patio heaters are IP55 rated and are designed to operate outdoors all year round
Reliable Outdoor Heating
When a BN Thermic engineer visited Top Golf, it was clear that an effective heating system would have to use shortwave infrared technology. Shortwave heaters heat people directly and crucially the heating effect is not ‘blown off course’ by air movement. In an exposed location such as a golf driving range, only shortwave halogen heaters can be relied open; precluding the use of mediumwave and longwave (sometimes called far infrared) heaters.
Two 2kW Quartz Halogen Heaters per Bay
BN Thermic suggested that each bay be heated by pair of 2kW quartz halogen heaters from its HWP range. The heaters were mounted at 2.5m above floor level and either side of the table. Heaters from the HWP range are IP55 rated meaning that they can be used safely in all weather conditions.

Control for Economy
Quartz halogen heaters are instantly effective. This means that there is no requirement for pre-heating and thus an unoccupied area does not need to be heated. To make the most of this feature, BN Thermic recommended push-button time control. Should a customer require the heaters to be switched on, he merely pushes the button on the timer and the heaters will operate for a pre-programmed period, perhaps 30 minutes. Once this period has elapsed, the heaters will be automatically switched off until the button is pushed again.
Planning an Installation is Vital
For a successful outdoor heating installation, it is important to select heaters with the output required and to mount them at an appropriate height. If the installation is not planned carefully, the heating effect can be insufficient or too intense.
