Typically, primary comfort heat control is provided by a wall-mounted programmable thermostat. Depending on the quantity and type of cassettes installed and the voltage supply, the thermostat can switch a group of heaters directly or via a suitably rated contactor. How it Works
ESP Radiant Cassettes are designed to heat commercial and industrial spaces and are especially suited to buildings with high ceilings such as sports halls.
The cassettes are generally ceiling mounted or suspended at high level in a grid formation to give good area coverage. Alternatively they can be wall mounted using the optional wall bracket. Once switched on, the radiant cassettes emit long wave radiant energy providing the quickest means of heating a space.
ESP radiant cassettes are the most economic means of heating larger spaces. Savings of up to 30% can be made when compared to conventional convection based heating systems. There are two reasons for this:
- Temperature Gradient. When using fan heaters to heat a large space a typically temperature gradient of 2.5°C per metre would be expected. The equivalent figure for a building heated with energy saving radiant cassettes is 0.3°C. Therefore in a 5m sports hall, the air temperature at high level would be more almost 15°C lower when using energy saving radiant cassettes.
- Radiant effect. In a building heated with energy saving Radiant Panels, the experienced temperature can be as much as 4°C warmer than the actual air temperature. This means that the thermostat can set up to 4°C lower than with a conventional heating system whilst still maintaining a comfortable temperature.

Estimating kW Output
In simple terms the output of the installed ESP radiant cassettes must be greater than the heat losses from the building during periods of cold weather. A small amount of heat is lost through the walls, ceilings and floors with more significant losses through windows and doors.

The estimated heat loss figure is the absolute minimum kW output that you should consider installing. We would suggest adding approximately 50% to this figure to allow for an acceptable warm up time in cold conditions as well as making allowances for exceptional weather conditions and possible errors in the original data used in the estimate.
Correct Cassette Distribution
ESP radiant cassettes can be ceiling mounted or suspended at high level. For lowest capital cost, we suggest using the highest practical mounting height, whilst using the minimum possible number of radiant panels needed to achieve the estimated kW requirement. Ensure that the distance between individual cassettes does not exceed the distance between the cassettes and the floor.
